From time to time I'll get an email from someone who visits one of my old adult sites, usually KHANS.com and ask why my site doesn't match what I recommend to new webmasters. Usually they point out that the pages at KHANS.com would *never* be accepted by a TGP and runs contrary to what I currently suggest to new webmasters. It begs the question of why I don't practice what I preach.
A valid question and perhaps one you've had too.
Well, the answer is really pretty simple; I don't currently build and promote adult sites for surfers. These days I focus my attention to helping other adult webmasters OR building my non-adult ventures. About the only one of my sites I even visit regularly is my TGP, which is a TGP mainly in name since I don't do the shaving and script driven link exchanges that go with your typical TGP.
Think of KHANS.com as a peek into the past. I leave it (virtually) unchanged so that folks can see what the adult web USED to look like back when the adult web business started.
See, back when my peers were building their empires, I focused on helping build a little adult webmaster resource ... perhaps you've heard of it ... YNOT.com Between helping to build and run YNOT and helping the YNOT members, there was little time left over. Besides, so often I found that promoting my personal site(s) could result in an apparent conflict of interest with my duties at YNOT.
One of my fellow YNOT Members (back when members were voted in) once told me that if I worked half as hard at building my stuff as I did at building YNOT, I'd be rich. Of course to a large extent he was right but then, being rich wasn't one of the driving factors in my life. I'm a simple man with simple needs and it seems to be part of my nature to help others. So that's what I do.
The point of telling you all this is to help you be mindful that the adult web is a very dynamic place. Sites that won awards when they were new may now seem as old fashioned as 8 track tapes. What worked last year may not work today.
So, when it comes to advice on building adult web sites, I'd encourage you to listen to what I'm saying or not, as you feel right. But whatever you do, don't copy my old stuff and expect to make money.
Until next time ...
be well
